Wardrobe removal in Leeds

Why a wardrobe fights you on the way out
Height is the first problem. Many wardrobes are taller than a stairwell turn allows, so they have to be tilted, and a tall carcass tilted in a narrow hall scrapes plaster and paintwork. Older solid wood ones can also be very heavy even when empty, and the top cornice or the base plinth often needs lifting off before anything else will move.
Flat-pack units hold together with cam locks, dowels and a thin back panel, and after a few years of standing and a house move or two they can be loose or fragile. We usually take the doors off first, then lift the carcass apart at its joints so the pieces travel safely. Mirror doors need care, and we may wrap them before they leave the room.

Empty it completely
Clothes, hangers and shelf contents out, and the shelves left in place so nothing rattles loose.

We need to know what the wardrobe is made of and how tight the way out is.

Doors, rails and panels come off with tools, and we protect the walls and banisters while we carry.
Loaded and swept
The pieces go in the van and we leave the space clear so you can see the wall again.
Where a wardrobe goes
A solid, sound wardrobe can be reused, and where it is in good condition we try to keep it out of the waste stream. Most flat-pack ones are chipboard or MDF that has seen better days, so they are more often broken down and sent for recycling as board and timber, with metal fittings separated out.
What cannot be reused or recycled goes for energy recovery rather than landfill where that route is available. We issue a waste transfer note either way.
Wardrobe removal questions
Do you take the wardrobe apart or do I have to?
We do it. You do not need to unscrew anything. If you have already started, that is fine, just tell us what is still attached.
Can you remove one from an upstairs bedroom?
Yes. Most wardrobe jobs are upstairs. Tell us how many flights there are and whether the landing turns, and we bring the right number of people.
What about a fitted wardrobe attached to the wall?
Say so in your photos. Fitted units are screwed or glued to the walls and ceiling, and we can take out what is detachable. Plaster repairs are not part of the job.
Will you take the clothes and hangers too?
Yes, but bag them first and tell us the count. A wardrobe full of clothes is a much bigger load than the wardrobe alone.
